What We Believe

What We Believe

Welcome to Candlelight Church of Christ We warmly invite you to join us for worship. Visitors are always cherished, and we would be honored by your presence. Our congregation is friendly, loving, and committed to making everyone feel welcome. Guided by the New Testament, we seek to honor and glorify God by worshiping Him “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). As a church, we strive to learn, grow, and love—both God and one another. We would love the opportunity to get to know you.

God

Above all, we believe that God is. While such a profound truth deserves endless reflection, we must press forward. We believe that those who diligently seek Him are rewarded beyond comprehension—with joy inexpressible and peace that surpasses understanding. We devote our hearts, bodies, and souls to the one true God revealed in Scripture. As an expression of our love for Him, we aim to serve others with the same devotion and compassion He demonstrates. We believe He gave His only Son so that we might live. Christ died on the cross to pay our penalty, extending mercy and grace at great sacrifice. In response, we strive to live in service to Him and others.

Jesus

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, sent to reconcile us with the Father. While on earth, Jesus was both fully God and fully man. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and became the perfect sacrifice for our sins through His death on the cross. Three days later, He rose from the dead, ascended to the Father’s right hand, and will return in power and glory to gather His own.

Worship

We strive to honor God not only in daily service but in heartfelt worship. Each Sunday, we assemble to praise Him through singing a cappella, without instrumental accompaniment, just as the early church did. Through hymns and spiritual songs, we uplift one another and glorify His name. In our worship, we offer prayers of petition, thanksgiving, and supplication, seeking wisdom to use His blessings for His glory.

Every week, we partake in the Lord’s Supper to remember Christ’s sacrifice and proclaim His death until His return. We dedicate time to reading and teaching Scripture, strengthening our faith, and preparing ourselves to share the message of salvation. As instructed in the New Testament, we also give financially to support the work of His kingdom locally and globally.

Salvation

We hold no creed but Christ. We believe the Holy Bible is divinely inspired—the very breath of God. Though we are united with believers worldwide, our congregation is independent, submitting only to the authority of Heaven.

To enter the body of Christ, one must come to faith by hearing the word of Christ (Romans 10:17). True faith requires a turning away from sin and a commitment to follow Him (Luke 13:3; Romans 6:10). We joyfully confess that Jesus is Lord (Matthew 10:32-33; Romans 10:10) and submit to baptism—immersion in water—through which past sins are washed away by Christ’s blood (Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16).

After this new birth, we walk in the light, seeking His guidance and mercy. Though we may stumble, He is faithful to forgive those who seek Him (1 John 1:5-9).

The Church

We believe that all Scripture is inspired by God and provides everything necessary to live a life that pleases Him (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:3). Because of this, we strive to worship just as the early church did when Christ established His kingdom.

Our commitment to biblical Christianity is why our congregation is shepherded by elders (1 Timothy 3:1-8), why our ministers do not take confession, and why we address one another simply as brother or sister.
